Processing and Characterization of Self-Reducing Briquettes Made of Jarosite and Blast Furnace Sludges

Abstract Jarosite sludge coming from the hydrometallurgical zinc production route is a hazardous material, which currently neutralized and landfilled by so-called Jarofix® process. The present study aims to assess mechanical metallurgical properties of briquettes made jarosite powder with blast furnace sludges, acting as reductant recover iron oxide in form pig produce an inert slag, increasing recovery materials considered wastes nowadays. Starch was used binder (0, 5, 10 wt%), two different briquetting pressure levels were (20 40 MPa). results show that without not desirable, agglomerating forces provided only are sufficient, very fragile handy. addition increased noticeably resistance, however, little distinction between 5 wt% seen. pressure, on other hand, showed bigger role cold bound briquettes. pressed at MPa reached average compressive strength higher than 12 good abrasion drop resistance seen, also showing their starch feasible. A special remark done regarding roasting treatment before process, undesirable compound (thenardite) formed within some due non-uniform heating powder, hindered properties.
